New Vintage Country Corner

The gals did a fabulous job creating a wonderful new corner at the Mercantile. It is a blend of Vintage Antiques and rich color products from Kelly Rae Studios and other unique artists. The new jewelry is coming in after my return from the Atlanta Show the middle of January.

Here is a peak of the new corner...did you see the antique steamer trunk! It is amazing and such a rich part of our American Heritage of days gone by.

Holiday Time is in the air at the Mercantile.

Our twinkle trees are decorated and the beautiful ornaments from Poland have arrived.

Mark your calender for our "CHRISTMAS IN THE COUNTRY" at our 100 year old building in Holdingford just off Main Street on November 5 from 9-4pm. Our handcrafted one of a kinds will be featured at this once a year sale.

Visiting the Zonta House this year? It is scheduled for Nov 18-19 and we have been invited to participate again this year. Look for our wares in the 3-season porch just off the kitchen!

It was a great trip and a long drive to Pennsylvania last week. I found new treasures and returned to some of my favorite shoppes. The day started at Peasant Run Antiques which is a favorite antique store of mine located in a massive barn. If you have not been to their website you must take a peek. Smokey, the barn cat, greeted me with a warm "meow" and rolled over for a scratchin'.... I found two great pieces that had just arrived ~ an Amish work table that is nearly 6 feet long but narrow, and a rough wood fence section that was clearly handmade. MARK YOUR CALENDER.....Fall Open House & Primitive Market! The above items will be available during our Primitive Market held at the store and in the Courtyard on August 5 & 6. I have invited four primitive artists to participate and we are all very excited!

Early days of Summer....

It is finally beginning to feel like we have moved into summer. We are enjoying playing in the dirt as flower and veggie beds come to life.

Once all the digging is done and the "front porch sittin' ~ begins life has a way of slowing down if even for a few minutes. One of my favorite things to do while I am "front porch sittin" visiting with friends and neighbors is to light one of my candles out on the porch.

It is amazing how the comforts of scent travel throughout the yard. Many evening walkers that come by the house comment as they pass on the wonderful scent. I use old flower pots to place the jar candles into for added stability.... sometimes like more than one even if they are different scents. My favorite are the baking blends which makes people thinking I have something in the oven!

Tears and Fears....

It is amazing when I step back and look at the progress my family has made on the shop these past weeks. My hubby and his brother have made all my visualizations a reality. They have given me my two rooms made from 100 yr old reclaimed lumber ~ complete with tin roofs, a huge beautiful counter, wooden floors, beautiful stone entry wall, and warm wall colors. It fills my heart with joy and thankfulness to be so blessed with a wonderful support system. In fact the other day my dad was heading to Wyoming on business and happened to stop by an antique store in the Dakotas. He found a great assortment of old cupboards and gave me a call. Four days later here comes dad sporting his new black cowboy hat pulling a rented trailer full of antiques. My tears of gratitude and a happy dance in back of the trailer made him giggle.

Loving all the great finds we pulled out of trailer was short lived as I had to yet again pull out my soap and scrub bucket to wash these "farm fresh" finds. Good grief....centuries of dirt does not wash away easily.

Well....I know that I need to get the camera out and start taking these photos- very hard to believe the transformation from white walls and white carpet. The days seem to fly by and shopkeepers fears tend to set in. It is quickly brushed away with my love of what I do and sharing it with others. How very lucky I am to live this life.

We are setting a target date of April 8, 2010 ~ well lets just say that my new shopkeepers will be coming in to learn and there will be cash in the till! I am sure I will be still futzin with stuff but it has to open sometime and it might as well be sooner than later. I must confess that I have yet to tackle the new till... computerized technology ~ oh boy. The other day all was going good...I was a bit shaky due my unreasonable fear of this new till ~ but programming was going well. Then I got a bit side-tracked, those who know me see this happen about every 10 minutes, well I reached over to grab a pen and didn't I hit a key on the till. Good GLORY....out came a 3 foot print out of who knows what! Sue from the quilt shop and I had a conversation the other day that technology is great but to much of it is just silly. Needless to say...the till won the first battle!
